Through hard work and dedication to promoting rugby to the community, the Wanderers have opened up several avenues for domestic and international exposure, not only for the Wanderers, but for our Sponsors as well.

Demographics - Rugby in the Northeast The Wanderers are a member of the New England Rugby Football Union (NERFU), which is the Local Area Union of USA Rugby. NERFU is the largest Rugby Union in North America representing 240 member clubs in 2010. These clubs consist of men’s, women’s, college, and youth clubs broken down as follows:

  • 35 Men’s clubs,
  • 7 Men’s graduate school clubs,
  • 65 Men’s collegiate clubs,
  • 11 Master’s (Old Boys) clubs,
  • 17 Women’s clubs,
  • 62 Women’s collegiate clubs, and
  • 43 Youth/High School clubs.

NERFU is growing at a rate of approximately 25 percent per year and consists of over 15,000 rugby players.

International Matches/ Fixtures The Wanderers are among the few, if not the only, Division II Club in the nation to be chosen to host international matches for the U.S. National Ream, The U.S. Eagles.  The Wanderers have had the opportunity to host four international matches for the U.S Eagles: England in 1982, Scotland in 1991, Wales in 2005, and Munster in 2008.  Each of these matches brought people from around the world to the area.  The attendance to the matches allowed exposure for the Club and its Sponsors to thousands of people.

Club Travel Exposure for the Wanderers and Sponsors does not stop at matches or social functions in New England. The Club travels to tournaments around the country, conducts domestic and international tours and hosts international touring teams. Each year the Wanderers attend a minimum of one domestic tour.  The Club has traveled domestically to California, Florida, New York, Rhode Island, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and Texas. Internationally, the Wanderers have toured in Bermuda, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, and Scotland. The Wanderers have hosted several international teams such as the London Scottish, Bermuda Police RFC, Tullamore RFC (Ireland), Drogheda RFC (Ireland), and the Solihull RFC (England). All of these have given national and international exposure to the Wanderers and their Sponsors.

For information on how to become a sponsor, please contact any of the Clubs' representatives located on the “Contact” page.  Thank you for your interest in the Hartford Wanderers RFC.
