This Weeks Highlights

2012 Connecticut Rugby Blood Drive: The 1st Annual Connecticut Rugby Blood Drive (sponsored by the CT Grey RFC) will be held on February 4th (Saturday) from 8:30am -1:30 pm at the Saint Sebastian’s Church at 155 Washington Street in Middletown CT. The goal is to surpass 75 donors so please pass the word along to all of your Connecticut rugby contacts (High School, College, Men’s clubs, Woman’s clubs, etc.).  Volunteers are also needed to help set up at 8am and close down at 1:30pm. If you can volunteer to help out or donate blood, please let Mike Meyer (CT Grey RFC) know at mmeyer63@yahoo.com.

2012 RBS 6 Nations Rugby Tournament: This year’s 6 Nations Tournament starts up on February 4. All of the matches will be televised LIVE at Rookies in Cromwell, CT. FREE admission.

The Hartford Wanderers RFC, based in Hartford Connecticut, was founded in 1966 by a group of men seeking to establish a quality athletic and social club. Since inception, the club has provided its members an avenue for rugby development and competition, social interaction and rewarding community service. Today’s players are still bound by the brotherhood shaped by shared blood, sweat, and hard work required to become a premier rugby football club.

A member in good standing with the New England Rugby Football Union (NERFU) and USA Rugby, the Wanderers have established their legacy; succeeding at the highest levels of men’s amateur rugby in the Northeast and Nationally.  A sample of the teams’ achievements include: a Division I National Championship, several appearances in the Northeast Territorial Union Playoffs, and an appearance at the USA Rugby National Championships in 2008. Several members of the club have been honored by being selected to the United States National Rugby Team, the U.S. Eagles, and competing internationally.The Wanderers success on the field is surpassed only by the club’s off-field achievements. The club is committed to developing rugby’s stature in the community. As such, the Wanderers continue to be active is supporting various national and local charities and developing youth rugby programs.

The Wanderers currently compete in Division I of NERFU with training sessions on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s. If you would like more information on the Wanderers or about joining the club, please look through our website or feel free to email any of our contacts.
